Disaster Recovery

Whilst this is a common phrase it would probably be better to refer to this as Business Continuity Planning, which fundamentally is all about making sure that your business can survive a disaster or extended period of disruption.

The causes of the disaster or period of disruption can be manyfold.  Some examples are :

    1. Natural disasters – i.e. flooding or storm damage
    2. Theft or vandalism
    3. Fire
    4. Power cuts
    5. Fuel shortages
    6. IT failure
    7. Restricted access to premises
    8. Loss of key staff
    9. Outbreak of disease or infection
    10. Industrial action

You will need to rate the chances of any disaster/disruption and then come up with a plan of how to address the impact this may have. Wikipedia has a very helpful article on this, which can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_continuity_planning#Threat_analysis
