intY CloudFest Recap!

Updated: Mar 13, 2019

Last week, intY took over Celtic Manor Resort, Newport to host their annual CloudFest event over two days. Quintech were nominated for two awards so we were very much looking forward to the event. Let's recap on what happened!

Day One - Golf & Microsoft Training

Our Sales Account Manager - Mike arrived early on the Wednesday to take on the challenge of the Roman Road course at Celtic Manor, playing alongside John Macintosh of Comodo and two other managed service providers. In testing conditions (30mph winds!) Mike and his fellow players were sadly unable to put together a good enough score to take home a prize, but an enjoyable round was had and the opportunity to play the prestigious course was fantastic.

On to the afternoon and Ashley Jeggo of Microsoft was delivering training on Microsoft Azure - what it is, what it can do and how it can help our customers. Azure is an incredible platform as it is constantly developing and changing to benefit users. Cloud hosted servers and workstations, back-ups, development tools are just a few features/uses of Microsoft Azure. Azure is being used so widely across the world and there a a vast amount of datacentres across the world. We also got to see a video of how a Microsoft Azure datacentre works, the security measures involved and also the day to day running - this was incredible as it showed just how secure data is when placed in to Microsoft Azure. Azure is something that Quintech as a business are looking in to and how utilise it's vast capabilities to tailor in to a proposition that will benefit our customers.

Day Two - CloudFest & Awards Dinner

Day Two brought us the CloudFest part of the event - an exhibition and conference bringing together some of the biggest names in IT and vendors that intY work with including: Symantec, Acronis, Comodo, Microsoft and even Williams Martini F1! Managing Director, Dominic and Sales Manager, Ian joined Mike for the day and settled in for an insightful day of keynote speakers and masterclass sessions.

Keynotes from Comodo & Microsoft were in the morning, detailing their product offerings at the moment and how they would be beneficial to customers moving forward. Acronis followed Microsoft and touched on their partnership with Williams Martini F1 and how the landscape of data storage and cloud based security is shifting rapidly and constantly. Graeme Hackland - Chief Information Officer for Williams Martini Racing, gave us an insight as to how much data it takes to successfully run a Formula One team and how Acronis play a big part in that as well as Microsoft and other vendors. His stories of the racing industry had the audience engrossed and hanging off of every word he had to say.

Following a brief break, Varun Kohli of Symantec demonstrated the new SEP Mobile product. He demonstrated how easy it was to hack of phone by using Craig Joseph's phone. It was a real eye opener how easy it was for him to do this and what he was able to do once he had control of Craig's phone. Sending him to specific websites, copying personal information such as credit/debit card details and passwords - Craig could have been financially ruined if this was a genuine attack. Symantec's SEP Mobile product is a fantastic way of protecting mobile devices, much like a traditional anti-virus product but specifically designed for mobile devices. There has been a real surge in mobile based attacks and with SEP Mobile, there is now a way to prevent this!

Post lunch, there were masterclass sessions in Comodo, Acronis, Microsoft & Symantec. Some really interesting developments with these sessions, notably from Comodo who have developed an impressive anti virus suite. The sessions from Symantec and Microsoft were also insightful as it showed us where they are going as businesses and all of the new developments coming out soon!

Once CloudFest had finished, it was back to the Roman Road clubhouse for a black tie awards dinner. Quintech were nominated for two awards: "Trusted Advisor of the Year" and "SMB Provider of the Year" We were honoured to scoop the Trusted Advisor award which capitalises on our Lifetime Achievement award last year! A fantastic evening all round and capped off with an award win which as mentioned was an honour for us.

Thank you intY and Celtic Manor for hosting such a brilliant event and we look forward to seeing you again next year!
